Article on the LIFE Elia in the Forêt.Nature periodical

The periodical Forêt.Nature aims at producing articles of scientific vulgarisation dedicated to sustainable management of forests and natural areas. Published every 3 months by the NGO Forêt Wallonne, the first issue of the new edition was planned for July 2015.

The LIFE Elia team did get the opportunity to present in this issue the latest results of an economical cost-benefit analysis led by the team and Elia (Belgian Transmission System Operator).

Main goal of this analysis is to establish a clear economical balance between different ways to manage vegetation in electrical corridor under power lines. Results show that a vegetation management combining biodiversity and electrical safety reveals to be 1,4 to 3,9 cheaper than a traditional clear cutting through rotary slashing. To present these results further on, 40 participants from 17 different European countries gathered in June 2015 in Belgium for a two days visit co-organised by the LIFE Elia, Elia and RTE.

Full analysis soon available in English. Available in French.
