LIFE programs : 20th Anniversary

Life programs that have restored many valuable natural sites in Europe celebrate their twenty years in 2012.

This anniversary is celebrated through the whole European community. Our Life - ELIA (www.life-elia.eu) being so young, we have decided to invite you to visit the plateau of Saint Hubert, where a former Life (rehabilitation of Peat and wet habitats LIFE03/NAT/BE/000019) ended six years ago.

This Life has restored 600 ha of heath land, bogs and wetlands, about 2,600 ponds have been created, a rare biodiversity relives now where there were spruces, shadows and lack of biodiversity.

This Life was the first link in a series of similar projects that will recreate boggy open areas from the German border to the French border: LIFE Hautes Fagnes, LIFE Ardennes liégeoises, LIFE Plateau des Tailles, LIFE Saint-Hubert, LIFE Lhomme et LIFE Croix Scaille .

The meeting place is set Saturday, May 26 at the CRIE of Fourneau Saint Michel (www.criesthubert.be) 10 at 6870 Saint Hubert (Awenne)
