Presentation of the LIFE Elia-RTE in Lille and Guise (F)

During two days (21/11/2016 and 24/01/2017), the LIFE Elia-RTE team was able to present the LIFE project to approximately 400 employees of the French transmission system operator RTE. These presentations were held in Lille and Guise for the staff of the Northeast delegation of RTE, one of the 7 delegations on the French territory.

 Two days to inform staff

These two days helped to inform about 400 people from 3 Network Maintenance Groups, departments and various functions, on projects and actions undertaken by RTE on the theme of security. The LIFE is very much in line with this theme, since the object of the project is to reconcile electrical safety and biodiversity.

While at the beginning of the project, it could legitimately initiate some questioning among the members of maintenance teams, it was quickly the pride to work in a company sensitive to environmental matters that was felt in the exchanges that followed the presentations.

Achieved results and new challenges ahead

Of the 7 LIFE Elia-RTE sites in France, about 60 ha will be restored by the end of 2017. The different regions worked have each their specificity and it is the experiences gathered during these 5 years of work will allow an interesting return of experience. The specificities of each site are articulated around the following points: ecological context, nature of the terrain, local partnerships, cadastral parcels, local traditions and customs, actions implemented or types of high voltage lines (existing or in the process of creation).

These positive experiences, widely relayed in our News page, led RTE to look at the development of a project to develop the LIFE methods on a larger scale from 2017 on. To be continued...
